Visual Basic Programmer's Guide to Serial Communications, 4th Edition
Now available use from Amazon.com. (out of print)
Visual Basic Programmer's Guide to Serial Communications. Fourth edition (391 pages), published July 2004, revised March 2006. By Richard Grier.
Naturally, I have to recommend this book. I wrote it. Read some of the book reviews that have been placed on Amazon.com by readers. I think that these will give you a good idea of what I tried to accomplish when I wrote it. I have updated the book to include coverage of VB.NET, including .NET native code. Also included is serial communications using VB .NET using the Compact Framework for the PocketPC/Windows CE and Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008. The 4th edition has lots of new example code, extensive 3rd party resources on the included CD-ROM, and more!
I add new example source code and utility programs to the included CD-ROM to keep the book up-to-date with the latest changes in VB .NET. This includes many new articles that are intended to provide detailed insight into the example code.

I have taken over the tasks of publishing and printing this book. What that means is that you have two ways to order it. You can get it through Amazon.com (click the image above) -- however, you will want to select the option: "More buying choices, Buy It Used." Actually, what you receive is brand new (if you select the right source). What you really are doing is placing the order with me through the Amazon.com Marketplace. I take care of the shipping for Amazon.com.
Note: There may be a delay before I receive shipments of newly printed books. There usually is no delay, but I will let you know about the shipping status if you inquire.
Alternately, you may order it directly from me using PayPal to pay. Using PayPal saves you about $5, and PayPal is the only method that I use for orders from outside the US. My PayPal ID is my email address: email@example.com. I accept payment by check for US destinations only.
I will autograph copies upon request.
Replacement CD ROMs. I will provide replacement CD ROMs (from the 4th Edition) at cost, for owners of any edition. I will ask you for proof of ownership, either a purchase receipt, or a quote from the book (I choose a sentence for you to quote). The cost is $5 for delivery in the US. I will mail outside of the US at a higher cost. Again, I request payment via PayPal (firstname.lastname@example.org).
